Hi everyone- I've received very valuable advice from many of you- including reading all threads related to Starwoods and buying (resale) at a 'mandatory' resort. I need a point of clarification from someone who has recently bought resale at Kierlands. Was SVN membership/Options automatically passed with 'deed or title'? Or did you receive a 'welcome package' from SVN with membership application? This is an important point to me, after reading FredM's great tread on 2/9/05. Also, I was told by sales at Kierland yesterday that in resale, the SVN does not pass with deed, only in developer purchase. This is an important distinction that I would like to clarify before I buy either from developer or resale at Kierland. Much Thanks for any info....by the way- for those who asked- "Sir Newf" is my dog's name- a large, beautiful, Newfoundland...my name is Anna. IP: Logged |

They told you a big WHOPPER! SVN membership DOES transfer with a Kierland resale, however, before you can make a Resv. or exchange, Starwood has to be notified that you are the new owner and then you will receive a welcome letter from them. (The transfer Co. will notify Starwood.) We bought a resale at another Starwood resort and I think we got the letter within a month of closing. ------------------ Denise IP: Logged |

For peace of mind, consider calling owner services and ask to speak to someone in the legal department. The sales office is just trying to make a sale.------------------ Nicole IP: Logged |

Anna -- SVN membership at MANDATORY resorts is MANDATORY. People who purchase mandatory resorts on the resale market do not have the option of choosing whether they want to be included in the SVN. So, rest assured, as an resale owner at Kierland (or WKORV, St. John, Harborside or Vistana Villages) you will be given the same StarOption benefit given to people who purchase from the developer. Of course it will cost $99 each year ($103 at WKORV) for this benefit. Jerry IP: Logged |

Hey, I am still waiting for my welcome letter after buying resale at VV. However, I have already made reservations with my transferred 2005 staroptions and my 2006 staroptions. I guess you don't need the welcome letter. Ben IP: Logged |

I don't think you need the letter, it is just an indication that they have received notification of new ownership. If you are in a hurry, you could always call member's services and ask if it has been transferred.------------------ Denise IP: Logged |

I closed about a month ago on a VV resale, and would like to confirm Starwood has updated their records (I know the closing company notified them). I called owner services several months ago to check out the legitimacy of the seller/what I was buying, but now I can't seem to locate the number. Anyone have owner services phone # handy please? Thanks, David IP: Logged |

Hi Folks, just got this Starwood reply today first below in response to my question second below:STARWOOD REPLY: Date: Thu, 26 May 2005 12:18:11 -0400 (EDT) From: Starwood Vacation Ownership - Owner Services Subject: Your Starwood Vacation Ownership Comments **PLEASE DO NOT REPLY TO THIS AUTOMATIC MESSAGE**Thank you for your message regarding your inquiry. If you purchase a resale unit, you would not be able to join the week with Starwood Vacation Network (SVN) and use Staroptions. If you purchase the unit directly from us you would be able to use the week as Staroptions. Dear Sir/Madam: It is my understanding that, as a SVO, I can rent or sell my unit. Conversely, what I'd like to know is, if I buy a unit from a fellow SVO does participation in SVN and the Staroptions values convey with the unit. The Starwood Staroptions chart does list the unit as in the SVN point system. IP: Logged |

Hi Sharktzu,The answer to your question is below (from "https://www. mystarcentral.com/comm/contactus.jsp" which is accessible only by SVOs). I've also noticed some folks asking for Starwood phone numbers so I've included those too from the SVO web page. Presumably these numbers are only good for current SVOs. BTW, I inserted Starwood's response to my inquiry into this thread to illustrate how they will only answer a specific question (I asked if the SVR Lakes section [on StarOption Chart] would qualify for SVN membership to a resale buyer who was a current SVO of another property). They gave me the correct technical information; however, I had to get the complete picture (mandatory vs. voluntary resorts) from this BBS (Nettleman, FredM, et al).
