Has anyone done the math to see if it's worth it to book the week and stay for 5 or 6 days as opposed to the full 7? I haven't yet utilized my Points on a weekend, so I haven't experienced the cleaning fee.
As I search, I'm noticing the difference in the points cost for a full week as opposed to 6 days is nominal, and so is the trade fee. With 6 days, you'll pay the cleaning fee. Does it make sense to just book the whole week to avoid cleaning fees?

I've stayed for less than 7 days a few times. If I've stayed 3 or 4 days I usually just pay the money. (grudgingly) as I figure it does add cost to the resort. I also think that if they want people to be able to stay less than 7 days they should make up the cost in some other manner. I prefer to not know where the money goes. As far as staying 6 days instead of 7 I usually speak to a manage and politely express a desire that I prefer to not pay the fee. Most times they have waived it because they know the did not have to do an extra cleaning for the week. One time after attending a presentation when I checked out they wanted to charge me. I explained that no one in the sales presentation told us of this added fee and that I would be glad to go into the sales room and ask loudly if this was a common charge. It is amazing that they waived the fee that time. Niceness works most of the time though. One piece of advice: Never take no for an answer from a person that can't say yes in the first place.

Check with the resort before you decide. Last year I stayed 3 or 4 days with the HGVC Las Vegas and the Grandview, also in Las Vegas and don't recall that I was charged any extra fees.

I've also heard some resorts are starting to charge the cleanup fee if the 7 days is not a traditional weel. i.e. Tuesday through Tuesday. We've also been told that because we are staying on a Wednesday through Wednesday that we may have to change rooms in middle of our stay.

Yes you do have to watch that. We stayed for 10 days checking in on a Tues and out on a Fri. We did not receive any housekeeping at all during out stay. They wanted to charge us $55 but did agree not to after some discussion. I always understood that if your stay was longer than 7 days you would not be charged but have since found out that is not true. It is up to the resort and they are allowed to charge what ever they want.
