Four members of our group are arriving at the Royal Mayan on April 23rd in the afternoon and have made arrangements with Brant Boston for transportation from the airport to the Royal Mayan. The remaining 2 members are arriving after 9:00 p.m. and will probably use Thomas Moore. My question is this: Is there always an available van waiting there for people who want to take a shared van to the Royals, or do arrangements need to be made in advance for this service especially for late evening arrival? Can payment be made in American dollars for the service?

Thanks in advance

Payment can be made in USD. If you reserved with Thomas Moore or Brant online, they will be there.

Thomas More's pickup fee will appear on the club bill for the villa number used for the reservation.

PS -- all pickups have to be reserved in advance or the van is not allowed to take you from the airport.

You have to make arrangements with Thomas More in advance through the royal resorts web site. The cost will be added to the Villa bill, there is no other way to pay.

Thanks for the responses but after reading the info on the Royal Resorts website it looks like shared service is not available after 9:00 p.m. and so they would have to pay $50.00 for a private van for just the 2 of them. Maybe a better option would be to reserve a private van through Brant Boston at the price of $35.00 if his service runs after 9:00 p.m. or the regular shared vans that are outside the airport. Does anyone know if either the regular shared vans or Brant's service runs after 9:00 p.m.? By the time they get through immigration and customs it would probably be at least 10:00 p.m.

Thanks again for your help

The collectivo vans are always there when the airport is open.

I believe that Brant can have a van for you at whatever time you need it. I would Email him and ask. Obviously you would have to give him the flight arrival information at the time you make the reservation also, I'm sure he would tell you if it would be a problem.

I would just have them get a cab at the airport, forget about arranging something for just two people. It will be easier for them to just get a cab.

I thought I had read that cabs were not allowed to pick up at the airport. Is this not right? I sent an e-mail to airportservice@royalresorts.com and received a response that the shuttle would be available for planes arriving before 10:30p.m. I am assuming by shuttle they mean the shared vans at the cost of $8.50 pp one way. I will e-mail them again to clarify the cost and then book it. Thanks for your responses.

Making a advance reservation with Brant Boston for $35 will be cheaper than taking a Taxi from the Airport.
A Taxi will be around $50
Thomas Moore shared service does have a official 9PM cut-off time.
You can still get a Taxi or shared Van service after 9pm and you don't need any advance reservations. They are there whenever the Airport is open.
Shared Van service with be about $9 per person and you only save .50 using Thomas Moore if you make a advance reservation.

Ground Transportation at the Cancun airport like all other Mexican airports is tightly controlled by the Airport authority and Taxi Unions.
Fares are set and enforced by these authorities in control.
Shuttle services like Thomas Moore and brants drivers have pemits and pay fees that allow them to operate transportation services from the airport.
Taxi Fares from the airport to Hotel zone are more than double what it costs to take a Taxi from the Hotel zone to the Airport do to these added fees/taxes that are collected on all airport out bound passenger transport.

Taxis bringing people into the airport are not allowed to pickup and take passengers to the Hotel zone and must return to the hotel zone empty.
You must use the Taxis or shuttles authorized by the airport/union unless you take your luggage and walk off the airport property where you can flag down a empty Taxi and barter for a fare.
There is a checkpoint as you leave the airport property where the taxi/vans must stop and checkout when they have passengers.

A couple of posters in this thread have stated that the airport transfer cost would be charged to our villa at the Royals when using Thomas Moore but when I try to reserve online it asks for Credit card information and says payment is due at time of reservation. Is this a new policy for them or am I not doing it correctly? Also , do the Thomas Moore people at the airport hold up signs with your names or do we just look for a Thomas Moore sign or look for a booth? What is the process at time of pick up?

Thanks

Boggie

I does seem that when you book thomas Moore from the states they charge your credit card. When you book them at the resort they charge your Villa. When you arrive at the airport, you just keep walking straight outside, do not stop and talk to anyone until you get to the curb and you will see Thomas Moore Personnel in uniforms who will direct you to the first available van.

I have always arranged my Royal airport Transfers thru E-mail at
airportservice@royalresorts.com
The charge has always been added to my room bill at the Royals.
If you decide not to use the service for any reason your not charged.

If you choose to order transfers on there website instead of email then you are purchasing inadvance and enter a credit card number. this must also be the case if you call the USA toll-free number and order.

You can read all the details about the service here: http://www.royalresorts.com/transfers.stm
