We have it booked for mid Feb 2006. The reviews on Tug"s Review board are generally good but reviews on other travel websites are mixed. I'm just wondering if anyone has been there lately and what experience did they have? It appears they are a little pushy regarding their timeshare pitches and there's construction that is suppose to be complete by Jan 2006...will they meet that deadline? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Just want to be prepared, less surprises that way. Thank-you in advanced. SaraIP: Logged |

Well if you don't like the sales pitch, don't go for a sales pitch. We went on a sales tour 3 years ago, and didn't feel they were hard sale. We were there this past October 2004, and stayed in building # 14 and were vary happy with the unit and the resort all around. We most likely will not be going back, because my kids are getting older and they wouldn't enjoy the resort as much as they did when they were younger. The resort should be under construction for about another 3 to 5 years, so this date of jan 2006 must be for a phase of the resort and not the complete resort. Jim breslinIP: Logged |

I just about don't read the reviews on other travel sites anymore. Most seem to be to the extreme so much that I wonder if that reviewer actually stayed there.I've never found Marriott sales pitches to be very high pressure. When we stayed at the Horizons by Marriott in Branson we were never been bothered by the sales team. They did run adds on one channel on the TV but that was no big deal to us. IP: Logged |

We we there summer 2004 and really liked it. Our 10 year old loved the pool, the karoke and the little game room. Of course we were there to do Disney so that was a plus, too. My husband and I found the rooms, the pier by the lake and the screened-in porch very relaxing. Especially if you have kids 12 and under, they will enjoy it. fyi....the bedding was really cozy with down fillers inside duvets...not the normal hotel bedding.------------------ Marriott Kauai - Platinum Marriott Aruba Surf Club - Gold The Masters at Paradise Canyon IP: Logged |

I was just there a couple of months ago. It was nice, but the construction shut down the water park. Personally, I prefer the Grande Vista and Cypress Harbour over the Horizon's. And, the Horizon's is right next to I-4. IP: Logged |

I would expect a difference in quality favoring the standard Marriott resorts over a Marriott Horizon's resort. Horizon's has been called Marriott "lite" and I agree with that assesment. I believe Horizon's was intended to be a lower cost TS alternative for families on a budget. I have photo's of some of the "standard" Marriott Vacation Club resorts as well as photo's of Marriott's Horizon resort in Branson, MO. These will give you the ability to compare the Vacation Club resorts to a Horizon resort. The photo's are posted at http://community.webshots.com/user/dougp26364 They include the Horizon's by Marriott in Branson, MO, Ocean Pointe in Palm Beach Shores, FL and Marriott's Manor Club at Fords Colony in Williamsburg, VA. Of course this will only give you an idea of the differences between resorts and the quality you could expect at the Horizon's in Orlando. We'll be back to the Horizon's in Branson in a couple of weeks so I'll be updating the web page with summer photo's that should make the grounds look nicer. The photo's on the page now were taken in Decmeber when the pools were closed down.

We stayed at the Horizons this past December and loved it. The area that is shut down due to the constuction is a play area with sprayers, buckets that dump water etc. It doesn't affect the pool area. Even though it is by I-4,the noise was minimal. Our boys had a blast at the pool and they are 19 and 15. If we return to Orlando,we will definitelty stay there again. IP: Logged |

We stayed there last summer and had a great time. We are Marriott owners and have to agree that Horizons is not as glamorous as some of the other Marriott locations, but the vacation experience there was every bit as good. I highly recommend it to families with young (pre-teen) children.IP: Logged |

For those who've stayed recently, can you tell us what supplies we should bring? My wife and I are bringing our 3 kids, ages 8, 8, and 7, in June. We're new to timesharing, so we're not sure what's included.Do we need salt and pepper? Towels? Soap? Dish detergent? Can we purchase on site the perishables we don't have? Thanks, Jeff IP: Logged |

I definitely feel better now that I've read all your responses. I believe my vacations are better now that I can go to TUG and get great insights into my vacation destination that I believe you really can't get anywhere else. Thank-you so muchIP: Logged |

Jeff, you don't need to bring anything but yourselves. The units are fully stocked except for your food. If there is something you need like an extra pan or whatever, just call the front desk and they will get it to you. The staff at Horizons are great. There is a grocery store nearby for your food. We also had a couple of visitors while we were at the pool at night. Raccoons! They just wandered around the garbage cans and didn't care that we were there. Jeff: The Publix supermarket is very close. Similiar to your Shop Rite, with a bit higher prices. There will be a very small bottle of dish detergent, small hotel sized soaps in the baths, several packets of D/W detergent, small hotel sized shampoos, cleaning supplies. All towles and extra linens are in the unit. Also in closets S/B extra blankets and additional clean sheets/pillow cloths. Packing bath sized soaps & shampoo might be helpful... Towels wash cloths sets will be supplied for the entire total of people that can stay in the unit...ie-= if 8 then 8 sets....plus extra for the pool. If driving from NJ, you might need to determine what might be worth bringing from home, or wait an be getting at the store. THe unit has a W/D combo. You can use this a lot, but it will need detergents and bleach....and maybe sofener (we use the dryer sofner..so we can wash & leave, they wash another load & dry first when we return)...You can do the clothes laundry to help keep packing weight down. If you see a small picnic Mortons Salt/Pepper shaker (99 Cents @ SR) and small types of spices your family likes, bring that (or buy at Publix). Bigger stuff like laundry detergent/bleach, milk would be easier to P/U at Publix . (THere are also Costco, and Wal Mart .....but not sure if you plan on that much shopping). Most of the MVCI member resorts are now giving a small starter pack (if their HOA approved it). It contains some coffees, sugars, and All Detergent and other stuff..like a power bar (I think one or two)....but just one box of All. Refridgerator is at least 18 CuFt, freezer with ice maker (YOU NEED TO START ITBY MOVING BAR DOWN), stove is a full sixed unit.... so you can save a lot of $$$ (if you need to...hummm) by using the kitchen for several meal preps. Most pots pans, dishes and glasswear are in the unit. So is baking stuff, microwave, ele mixer (small), rubbermaid storage stuff, and placemats. Some MVCI unit have DVDs, but most have VCRs... There will be a Market Place that has some foods...but prices are high. You can buy a refillable cup for the week for about $10.00....and according to MVCI, it can be used at other MAR resorts offering this. (Don't thow it away when you leave...bring to next resort) (Simply refill for free the plastic cup with soda, iced tea, or whatever is available at the open fountain. (I don't think beer is). Have confirmation ready when you approach the gates...however, they will have your name on a listing if you can't find. Guard (if gate is manned) will direct you to the reception bldg. to get room assignment. Check rooms before you unload car. ------------------ Ken K PS: Win a week with your TUG Winning Review submission: Award Week PIX Please click the page numbers as they present different subjects IP: Logged |

Sara, I usually take a handful of baggies with me and a few half gallon baggies. That way you don't have to buy a whole box at the grocery store. I also take enough dryer sheets for the week for the same reason. Pam

p.s. my son stayed here with our grandchildren age 2 and 3. He has asked me to get him another week there for this October. He really loved it and the kiddies didn't even want to leave to go to Disney.

Pick up some salt and pepper packets next time you are at a fast food restaurant. They're easy to pack and store and you can pitch them if you want before you come home.------------------ MAW - Hawaii/Kauai Photos IP: Logged |
