This may be a dumb question. And I have an idea as to what it means. But I don't exactly know for sure. If there is a listing for a "3-bedroom lockout," what does that mean?------------------ ON A QUEST TO VISIT ALL 50 STATES. 7 TO GO... IP: Logged |

A 3 bedroom lockout is essentially a 2 bedroom unit and a 1 bedroom (or studio) that have an adjoining door. As the owner you have the option of using the entire unit at once or only using one "half" and trade the other "half". It essentially gives you the option of using your week as a 3 bedroom or get 2 one week uses, one of a 2 bedroom and one of a one bedroom.IP: Logged |

When larger timeshare units can be subdivided into separate smaller stand-alone timeshare units in that way, I think of them as lock-offs. By contrast, in timeshare-speak, I think of lockout as what happens when you don't pay your fees & end up blackballed from getting reservations at the resort till you pay up. However that may be, as a practical matter the terms lock-off & lockout are both used pretty much interchangeably to denote timeshare suites that can be used as separate smaller units. -- Alan Cole, McLean (Fairfax County), Virginia, USA.

You might want to read/skim Steve Nelson's excellent Timesharing 101 in the TUG Advice section. There is a discussion of lockouts, as well as a host of other useful info about timesharing.IP: Logged |

I personally don't think any question asked here is "dumb". Timesharing like lots of industries uses its own jargon. That's what I find helpful about TUG, experienced posters take the jargon and make it simple for the simpletons like me Rick IP: Logged |

That’s what happens when your wife gets mad at you!No really it is when you have a suite usually with three bedrooms and one bedroom is able to be locked-off from the main section. The “Lock-off” room has it’s own entrance and bathroom but typically no access to kitchen or living room except through a passage door that is able to be locked off.

If you are a visual learner, go to my webpage below and click on the "unit photos" section. You will find the 3BR lock-out/off floorplan. Click on the 3BR floorplan photo and it will enlarge for better viewing. The section to the right is the 2BR unit while the one to the left is the lock-off/out studio unit. This better describes what was said in prior posts. You will notice that both units when locked-off/out have their own individual entrance and in this case lanaii/screened in porch. The 3BR unit can be used as such (a 3BR) or it can be locked off into 2 separate units. This is a really neat concept.Hope this helps some. frenchieinme
