Hi,I'm going to purchase a timeshare at Sheraton's Vistana Resort in Orlando and I'm looking into several different options. I have heard there are a couple of "bad" sections of the resort that are old and somewhat rundown. I definitely want to stay away from these sections, so could you please let me know what sections are considered the "best" in Sheraton's Vistana Resort, and which sections are considered the worst? I want to make sure I only look into purchasing timeshares in the best sections of this resort. Thanks for your help, Liz Fox ------------------ Liz Fox IP: Logged |

This is a Starwood Resort, and most of the Starwood posts are on the Hotel-Based TS board, so you might want to try there.------------------ Denise IP: Logged |

Slightly OT, but since this thread involves the Vistana, I've always wondered--what's the difference between Sheraton's Vistana Resort, RCI no. 0450 and Sheraton's Vistana Villages RCI no. 6059? I never know which one people are talking about. Thanks! ------------------ we are all angels with one wing. It is when we help each other that we truly fly. IP: Logged |

There are numerous posts on the Vistana Resort in the Florida section. You should look there!IP: Logged |

They are two completely different resorts. Vistana Villages is developed by Starwood and is the newest resort. Vistana Resort was bought out by Starwood serveral years ago, and I believe only the latest phase was built (not 100% sure?) by Starwood. But I believe only Vistana Villages is a mandatory resort (meaning resales get to participate in the SVN internal trades to other Starwood properties). I agree, VERY confusing of Starwood to use such similar names for two totally different properties. The only way to know for sure which resort is being referenced is to get the entire name of the property. Vague references to "Vistana" could be either one........-David

Vistana has older sections, but they are not run-down. Actually, some of these units are bigger & quieter. They are two & three story units vs. the newer Lakes & Cascades which are high rises. It's a personal preference issue. Also, many of the older sections are fixed time vs. float for the newer sections. Again, a personal preference issue. As one who owns both fixed & float time, I like my fixed week 7 at Vistana. It's always there to use without a reservation & I'm sure of its trade value when I don't want to use it. IP: Logged |

You could convert to RCI points...find out what Vistana charges. We paid $499 to convert our week and now squeeze two vacations per year out of it.....I would think you would get over 60,000 points....IP: Logged |

I hope you do not mind me asking, but as someone researching whether or not to buy into the Vistana I have a question about your trade value. What is a float week with a 1 bedroom or a 2 bedroom worth? Is the float worth more or less then a fixed? Sorry these questions are OT. IP: Logged |

All of the 1 Bedrooms are in the floating phases and the floating phases use bulk spacebanking within RCI (not sure about II) so your trading power will be nowhere near as strong as someone who owns a high demand fixed week. High Demand for Orlando seems to be Christmas, New Year's, President's Week, in and around Easter and the early part of the summer. We were able to trade an Easter Vistana week for a July week at The Allen House in London several years ago so I was pleased with the trading power. Now I'm confused. We own a floating week at Vistana Resort. The only time I banked they actually banked, according to my paperwork, the week I purchased. I float within that grid but actually purchased a float based on THAT week. BTW, I have never failed to get what I want at Vistana and the week I deposited traded very well. LindaIP: Logged |

Every float week has a specific week listed for deeding purposes. This ensures that a resort doesn't sell more than 50-52 weeks for each unit built (52 weeks less one or two maintenance weeks). In some resorts, a float time owner has first call on the week listed on the deed, but in most resorts an owner only has rights within the designated float period. Getting your "deeded" week deposited may just have been coincidental. Although all of us can argue the benefits of float vs. fixed, personal use patterns often make the difference as to what's best. That being said, certain fixed weeks are higher demand/value than others. A Week 7 (President's Week most years) is one of the five highest demand weeks at Vistana (a holiday week). This week is high demand at many resorts in snow and sun country. Again, I'm not pushing fixed vs. float. I own both. If you choose fixed, be sure to get one of the high demand weeks as idenitfied by other posters above and in other threads. Rich IP: Logged |
